With John Galliano at the helm, the Maison Martin Margiela famed silhouettes as imagined by its founder Martin Margiela has been given a new life.
Galliano whose prolific reign at Christian Dior produced imaginative reinterpretation of Monsieur Dior’s famous designs is doing the same thing at Margiela.
One key silhouette this season is the maxi coat, a well-known Martin Margiela creation is now being proposed in cut velvet and jacquard to be worn over a ribbed wool jumper and plaid skirt.
A woven leather belt, hand-sprayed flower neck accessory and hand-painted latex gloves complete the look while double-heeled Mary Jane shoes with an oversized ankle strap in brushed calf-skin leather and degradé PVC is the accessory de rigueur.
Another interpretation of the maxi coat is done in suede and worn over a dress with a frontal cut-out and an inside-out plaid skirt. Double-heeled Mary Jane shoes with an oversized ankle strap in brushed calf-skin leather and degradé PVC finished the look.
Highlights of the collection included a cotton tulle beaded dress is worn over a full-body lace bodysuit with a vinyl flower neck accessory and double-heeled loafers in patent leather and degradé PVC.
A layer of printed fil coupé organza is worn over a layer of PVC to create a short, sleeveless dress. The dress is worn with a leopard print rabbit fur hat and over a nude, full-length bodysuit. Double-heeled loafers in patent leather and brushed calf-skin.
A sleeveless vinyl pea coat with detachable sleeves and exaggerated pocket-cuffs is worn over a ribbed and ruffled jersey tuxedo-shirt dress. Fake fur slippers with a suspended pyramid heel.
