PARIS, Jan 18, 2013/ — From February 27th to May 4th, s013, Galerie des Galeries will host the first solo exhibition of Danish fashion designer Henrik Vibskov.
Entitled NECK PLUS ULTRA, the title is a play on words between the Latin motto “nec plus ultra”, meaning “nothing farther beyond” and the word neck as an anatomical reference to the neck-like objects, making up parts of this exhibition.
The word neck also makes up the name for the Henrik Vibskov A/W 2013 collection, The Stiff Neck Chamber (fashion show in Paris on January 17th, 2013).
With a poetic, playful and strange tone, he introduces us to what inspires and influences him and builds a personal atmosphere the visitor dives in. Among various colours and geometrical shapes and a refine work on textile, the artist mixes the use of visual, audio, and tactile senses together into one exhibition.
You will go from a stiff neck chamber consisting of bird necks hanging down from the ceiling to a hypnotic walk through spinning tunnels. It provides a whole ultra-stimulating experience: going from one state to another.
As a fashion designer Henrik Vibskov has produced over 20 men’s (and later also women’s) collections since he graduated from Central St. Martin’s in 2001. He is currently the only Scandinavian designer on the official program of the Men’s Fashion Week in Paris, in which he participates since January 2003.
Henrik Vibskov’s collections are sold only through thoroughly selected shops across the globe. 10 Corso Como in Milan, Tom Greyhound in Seoul, RA in Antwerp, Magasin in Moscow, Club 21 in Singapore and his own Henrik Vibskov stores in Copenhagen, New York and Oslo are a few of the most influential stores.
On May 2012 he has been named members of the “Chambre Syndicale de la Mode Masculine” in Paris.
Throughout his career Henrik’s designs have won him prizes such as the Beck’s Student Future Prize 2000, Arets Nye Navn 2003, Danish Design Council Award 2007, Brand of the Year DANSK Magazine Fashion Awards 2008, a Præmieringen from the Dansh Arts Foundation in 2009, the 2011 Soderberg prize, the highest doted fashion prize worldwide, as well as the Jury Prize at the Danish Fashion Awards in 2012.
