Wow! Has it been 7 years since Christian Siriano won Project Runway? And that means I have been covering him for at least 6 years because I have attended all his shows ever since he debuted at New York Fashion Week.
From his freshman collection that has been described as “fierce” to the Fall 2014 collection unveiled last February 8, 2014 at the Eyebeam Atelier, Christian Siriano continues to titillate the imagination of fashionista.
As a fashion critic, I have seen him get more sartorial every season as he grew as a designer and became more adept in his signature style.
And that brings us to Fall 2014 where Mr. Siriano explored his artistry. Inspired by the work of Parisian photographer Fernand Fonssagrives and his work with light and shadow on the female body, Christian Siriano sent out sophisticated silhouettes that is more Rue Saint Honoré than Fifth Avenue.
References from the 1950s and 1960s prevailed. According to his press notes, the muse for this one was model Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn.
Quoting Christian Siriano once again, “[Lisa’s] style inspired many of the shapes and fifties silhouettes, modified in this collection with new and unconventional woven silk and brocade fabrications for today. “
