NEW YORK, Sep 12, 2012/ — Renowned fashion designer, BETSEY JOHNSON returned to New York Fashion week on Tuesday, September 11th. The event was bigger, better and louder than it has ever been before; a celebration of her career thus far, her 70th birthday and new dress collection.
The show included a knockout performance by CYNDI LAUPER, who performed a three-song set of favorites such as, “True Colors,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun.” Following the fashion show, Betsey was given a birthday surprise by daughter, LULU JOHNSON, who jumped out of a cake while Lauper sang her, Happy Birthday. Guests then danced the night away to music by SKY FERRIERA.
Honoring the icon, the show featured a full Betsey Johnson runway retrospective. Betsey sent her girls strutting down the catwalk in all of her favorite looks from her 40+ years as a designer, including vintage pieces from the 60s (Paraphernalia), 70s (Alley Cat) and 80s (Punk Label).
In addition to the retrospective, Betsey showed her new collection of sexy, flowing dresses, detailed with signature Betsey accents, perfect for both casual and contemporary looks for Spring 2013. The show closed with Betsey’s iconic cartwheels and splits.
