On September 2018, the Mayor of Paris officially inaugurated the “Allée Sonia Rykiel” in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, honoring the late designer. This is the first street in Paris to bear the name of a fashion designer.
The unveiling of the plaque was the same day that the Rykiel Spring / Summer 2019 collection was unveiled fittingly on the same street bearing the name of the maison’s founder and where the famous farmer’s market is held every Sunday.
All the international press, the Officials of the city of Paris as well as 2000 students in fashion schools attended the event under the traditional tarpaulins of the market, dressed for the occasion of the emblematic stripes of the House.
In memory of this historic moment, Artistic Director Julie Libran created a limited-edition bag from this striped canvas.
This market bag embodies the spirit of the Rykiel Spring / Summer 2019 collection. Printed in yellow banana, green apple or sky blue stripes, it proudly bears an illustration of the “Allée Sonia Rykiel” plaque. Realized in the idea of upcycling, it offers the perfect accessory to the silhouette of Sunday that Julie Libran offers this season.
