A collaboration that goes straight to your heart, MCM and Korean artist Eddie Kang had joined forces to create a limited-edition capsule collection that sees classic MCM designs reimagined in the artist’s signature “animamix” style.
The brand has invited Kang to update a series of recognizable MCM shapes with his singular visual style, which is characterized by its vibrant color, map-like patterns and cast of playful characters.
Drawing inspiration from his solo exhibition, ‘Big City Life Loveless’ – a series of mixed media works exploring how love, caring and a sense of hope can help counter the pressures of contemporary urban life – Kang worked closely with the brand to produce a collection of quintessentially MCM bags, accessories and apparel lovingly decorated with several of his symbolic mascots.
The most prominent of these characters is Loveless, a puppy that symbolizes love, hope and
fearlessness, inspired by the remarkable story of Kang’s real-life adopted pet – a dog that survived cruel mistreatment at the hands of his original owner.
The collaboration is underpinned by the tagline, ‘Save The Loveless’, a social message close to Kang’s heart that draws on his own pet adoption experience and seeks to promote the practice of adopting homeless pets, rather than purchasing from breeders. MCM will be partnering with select animal shelters to promote the message further wit ‘Save The Loveless’ slogan T-shirts – both for dogs and their owners.
“I have always dreamed about collaborating with a global brand such as MCM; in part because I greatly admire its design heritage but mostly because a partnership like MCM x Eddie Kang helps make art accessible. By bringing my art to bear on much-loved MCM pieces, I can share my stories, philosophy and message are with a much wider audience, and in so doing hopefully inspire a positive change in the world,” says Eddie Kang.
The MCM x Eddie Kang collection will launch globally in January 2018, available exclusively at select MCM flagship stores and retailers worldwide.
