While most posts on the fashion blogs at this time of year are focussed on what we are supposed to want to wear in autumn and winter, in practical terms winter is not actually coming, not for a very long time. The longest day of the year isn’t even upon us yet, and neither is summer holiday season, so there are plenty of style decisions to be made between now and the time we start shopping for stuff with sleeves and hoods and whatnot.
Packing Isn’t a Last Minute Job Anymore!
For men, packing for a beach holiday traditionally was a far less involved process than for women, and decisions about what we’d have available to hit the beaches, bars and clubs could be made 20 minutes before leaving for the airport. These days, we like to think we make more of an effort than that, and do actually care about what we’re going to be wearing during what should hopefully be the best week or two of the year. Here are some fashion pointers for your summer 2015 beach holiday:
Swimwear
Are you going to the Med? With most of our most popular beach destinations being in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece, Mediterranean style on the beach is something you are going to encounter, and while for women this generally means wearing as little as possible (topless sunbathing is the norm in all of these countries with the exception of Italy), for men… Well, actually it means about the same. Men who are at home on these islands and coasts tend to think nothing of wearing small, brief style swimwear, and of course there are always going to be some guys in Speedos.
Do not be one of them. If you don’t want to spend the next year being mocked for the pictures of you your mates or girlfriend will put on Facebook in your teeny tiny swimming gear, stick to shorts. Nice shorts, in one of this summer’s hottest colours. You can find a great selection by Podenco Eivissa of Ibiza, just made for looking good on the beach.
Summer Nights
A beach holiday is not, of course, just about the beach. The nightlife is the other factor that makes your holiday special, and you need the right clothes. Ensure you have shoes that are smart enough to get into any clubs you might fancy, and even if you plan to mostly live in shorts and t-shirts, pack at least one smart button down shirt and some lightweight but smart trousers (or at least smart casual jeans) so you’ll have something to wear if you decide to try a more pricey restaurant or get invited to some kind of posh party on a yacht (because you never know what is going to happen in the Med!).
You don’t need to obsess for weeks or buy a whole new wardrobe, but do take some care when you pick out your swimwear and ensure you pack clothes for all different types of night out, just in case!
