“I had this idea of reducing volume, and so I started to cinch these old oversized coats, that I have designed, with rope. This led to the feeling of things being remade, which I mixed with the sensibility of photographer Viviane Sassen for spontaneity, colour and spirit.” – Jonny Johansson, Creative Director.
A cinched, body-conscious silhouette with a playful mix of fabric and colour: specially woven blanket wool; wallpaper print cashmere tailoring cloth; jersey jacquard; leather; shearling. Wool coats are cinched with stitches of rope to create a new fitted shape, while specially woven blanket wool with flecks of colour is used for jackets and coats.
Bandage-tight soft jackets, tops and leggings are made from a jacquard jersey, woven to appear like handmade bricks that are roughly stacked. Tailoring is printed with patches of chequered colour like wallpaper, the slim pants unzipped at the ankle to create a flare.
Blanket wool is contrasted with panels of sheer knit, resulting in tops and dresses that appear cut and remade. Leather skirts sit asymmetric as if spontaneously attached by press-studs, while leather dresses are finished with pockets of raffia like they are self-attached.
Images of environments by Viviane Sassen are used as prints on narrow belted pants, or on a collarless coat, both with contrasting pockets. Shoes and boots have heels like crushed metal cans, with fabrics and colours clashed and occasionally taped. Accessories such as rings also appear as if crushed metal. Soft, oversized newsboy hats have been specially created for Acne Studios by Stephen Jones.
