MILAN, Jun 23, 2007/ FW/ --- The mid-1930s was the heyday of the Orient Express where the bourgeoisie frequented it outfitted in luxury and style. The trains that ran across Europe picked up passengers from all parts of the continent and the luxurious travelers made sure that they outfitted or matched the fashions of their counterparts. Les Hommes, this season, went back in time for inspiration to this period where people dressed up for all occasions.
The runway lined from ceiling to floor with black wooden chairs was a surreal interpretation of the orient express. Inspired by Belgium surrealist painters Rene Margitte and Paul Delvaux, the stage helped transport the models into, if not a different time, a different place. Dogging thru the obstacle of chairs like walking down the rickety ride of the Orient Express, the models never lacked to look luxurious.
Daytime combinations and sportswear consisted of short shorts paired with a colored shirt and tie, toped off with a rendition of motorcycle jackets. Hair slicked in part to the side with not a strand out of place, casual becomes well thought out and luxurious.
Bright complimentary colors add youth and joviality to the manicured looks while finishes on fabrics make them modern.
Three-piece suits to jackets and ties for eveningwear help reference the style and glamour of the Orient Express. Even with high-contrasting gold buttons, the look still has a lot of traditional class.
Although the Orient Express will never again reach its fame as in its prime, Les Hommes is on the right track taking inspiration from the travelers who know how to dress for an occasion.
