Paris: Menswear Is Alive & Well
By: Staff Writer
DALLAS, Feb 2, 2001/ FW/ --- Menswear fashion is practically in coma in the U.S., while in Paris
on the other hand, it is very alive!
The clothes are superb! New style and tweaking of classic ideas dominated the scene. In short - if
in the U.S., menswear is dimmed, Paris is the lighthouse which show the way.
Hedi Slimane's debut for Dior Homme was just brilliant and attended by the "fashion royalty"
so to speak. Tom Ford's YSL Menswear received standing ovation. Veronique Nichanian's Hermès Menswear is
full of color and subtle detailing which have made Hermès a by-word for modern class in men’s fashion.
Marc Jacob's Louis Vuitton Menswear was a tweaking of classic menswear, bringing it to a higher level
while Yohji Yamamoto was inspired by "Pepe Le Moko," the 1937 French classic that starred Jean Gabin as a gangster.
