New York Fashion Week Spring 2001
Dates: September 14 - 22, 2000
News: New York Fashion Week Spring 2001
More Than 110 Designers Will Stage Runway Show In New York
NEW YORK, Aug 23, 2000 --- 7th on Sixth will kick off General Motors Fashion Week, from
September 14 - 22 with nine consecutive days of back-to-back, morning till night, fashion
shows, showcasing the spring 2001 collections. During New York's first fall weekend, the
Bryant Park tents will be bustling with activity as designers from around the globe vie for
the eye of buyers, fashion industry executives, major retailers, journalists and photographers
from around the world. 7th on Sixth will set the engines in motion for the global fashion scene
by spotlighting spring looks and trends that will quickly follow on the runways of London,
Milan and Paris later in the season.
The New York shows will premiere the spring 2001 collections of men's wear and
women's wear designers such as Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Carolina Herrera,
Oscar de la Renta, Randolph Duke, Nicole Miller, Rebecca Taylor, Douglas
Hannant, John Varvatos, Jason Bunin, John Scher, Joseph Abboud, Nicole Farhi,
John Bartlett, and many, many others.
For the first time ever, on Saturday, September 16, 7th on Sixth will become a
satellite of the United Nations when over 30 designers are featured during this
one day in eight runway shows.
For the Spring 2001 shows, the Bryant Park tents have been reconfigured for
maximum convenience and efficiency. All four venues, the Tent, the Pavilion, the
Studio and the new "Loft", can be entered from the main fountain lobby, which
serves as the central hub for fashion week activity. The Evian-sponsored café,
in the lobby, will be in full force beginning September 14th.
Since its inception in 1993, 7th on Sixth has become the backbone of the fashion
industry and one of New York City's most prestigious events. It has heightened
the profile of New York as an international fashion and style center, adding
luster to a city that already sparkles and bristles with energy. Fashion week,
in addition to creating tremendous excitement throughout the city, has a major
impact on ancillary industries such as the hotel, restaurant and transportation
arenas, which in turn, fuel the economic wheels of New York City.
