DALLAS, Aug 10, 2005/ FW/ --- With its selection in July as the site of the Summer Olympics 2012, London shone brightly, yet a day after the announcement, the terrorists attacks in the city dimmed that light.
London, the hub of Europe, an island nation that ruled the world for several hundred years has a long gallant history. Even its legends like King Arthur and Camelot has been described as utopia.
From legend to reality, Queen Elizabeth I made sure that the sun never sets on the British Empire. Then Shakespeare came along and the English ruled the world of literature.
Five hundred years after Shakespeare, we still quote him, we still love his plays and we are still enamored to its stage.
Still, from September 18th to the 22nd, a different stage takes place at the Natural History Museum as London Fashion Week takes the torch from New York to continue the Spring 2006 fashion season for women’s ready-to-wear.
With 52 names on the official calendar alone, headlined by Jasper Conran, Paul Smith and Julien Macdonald, all eyes will be on London for 5 days as British designers unveil their latest collections.
Organized by the British Fashion Council, London Fashion Week also gets a lot of support from the business sector, namely, the London Evening Standard as the title sponsor with the British Clothing Industry Association, BT Openzone and Intel, Department of Trade and Industry, Lavazza, London Development Agency, MAC Cosmetics, Moët & Chandon, Millennium Knightsbridge, Nikon, Red Bull, Renault UK, Tissot, Toni & Guy, Topshop, UK Trade & Investment as the major sponsors.
So, put it on your calendar as London presents its Spring 2006 catwalk shows.
