Amanda Wakeley Spring 2006: Restrained Elegance
London Fashion Week Spring 2006
LONDON, Sep 18, 2005 / FW/ --- If Julien Macdonald is all about exuberance this morning, Amanda Wakeley is all about restrained elegance this afternoon.
Just like Macdonald who had won the British Fashion Award for Glamour, Amanda Wakeley won it three times in the past.
And for Spring / Summer 2006, the British-born designer went back in time, the 1930s to be exact for her inspiration, ‘modernizing the silhouettes with breezy satins, printed silk jerseys paired with immaculate cut tailoring,’ as noted in her press kit.
Floor-length flowing gowns were mixed with structured daywear with very little embellishments allowing Amanda Wakeley’s tailoring skills to shine.
Using inverted chevrons and stripes is a few pieces added zest to the collection, plus the beading and sequins in some of the evening gowns.
Subdued colors, mostly in a very neutral color palette dominated this collection. And while Amanda Wakeley did not shout with her creations, her whisper was widely heard and seen with these breezy and dainty creations.
And if you’re interested who wears Amanda Wakeley, Elizabeth Hurley, Jennifer Lopez and Queen Rania of Jordan are amongst her many fans.
