NEW YORK, Sep 18, 2004/ FW/ --- Front row elites like Steven Tyler from Aerosmith, little red gift bags, new borns and Naomi Campbell on the runway all unfortunately couldn’t help take the Anna Sui summer 2005 collection shown last week in New York to new style levels.
While Sui is one of the super love child’s of New York for her fashion sense, she failed to prove why she is in fact one of the most gifted talents in the country. Don’t get me wrong, Little House on the Prairie meets the Wild Wild West and Scarlet O’Hara is a fine concept but the disappointing element is that Sui has done this numerous times in the past and is capable of much more.
High collar Victorian blouses were lovely with little puff sleeves in lace and cotton, while the Prairie dresses are pretty and bound to be a big seller. Sui’s ladies are hippy chic, gorgeously belted and while they are sexy and full of attitude, they are always playful and delicate.
Yippy Kah Yeh cowboy hats and boots were scattered among desert sand suede, denim and mini ruffles, and multi layered tier skirts along with tongue in cheek civil war uniform cuts.
Feathers and dream catcher nostalgic Indian touches were glorified with the final exit of Naomi the new Pocahontas, dressed as a silver Indian squaw.
Overflowing with photographers, A-list celebrities and a packed house, Anna Sui is always entertaining and colorful.
