DALLAS, Mar 14, 2004/ FW/ --- Anna Sui continues to be the epitome of cool in New York with her Fall 2004 collection featuring Victorian inspired rock & roll looks.
Sending models that included Tia, Karolina Kurkova, Carmen Kass and Naomi Campbell on the runway with crimped hair and Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side” dominating the soundtrack, the aura of the collection is definitely the 1970s.
But instead of highlighting the bright neon colors of the era, Anna Sui focused more on the romantic side of the decade, choosing a more subdued palette, but definitely still on the wild side.
Karolina’s deep V sunburst bodice, V-shaped waistline dress matched with maroon coat jacket spoke volumes on the romantic yet wild 1970s.
Hose in prints, floral dresses and blouses, Peter Pan lace collars were all styled with a rock & roll gypsy in mind, leaving no doubts in everyone’s mind that Anna Sui is a bohemian at heart.
The designer also mixed textures as in tweed with fur, velvet with prints --- emphasizing the theory that cool is defined by the wearer not by fashion magazines.
And in this season of romance and baroque, Anna Sui did it her way, sticking to her signature rock & roll heart yet bringing out the Victorian sensitivity in all of us.
