MILAN, Jan 24, 2005/ FW/ ---- Alexander McQueen’s second season at Milan’s men’s fashion week was well awaited and much anticipated. He surprised many with his sensible take on classics as well dazzled and pushed limits with couture embroidery for men.
To live a day in the mind of McQueen would be a treat to see his fantasy of how people should really dress. It has been said that McQueen is from another time and planet with his abstract designs and show concepts.
This collection started off with some very sensible wearable items that the fashion forward man can appreciate. Fur collars and baggy trousers were key items throughout the collection. A muted mix colour of cement and light blue was seen on the first looks of the collection.
Cream zipper detailed trench coats were versatile. Check and plaid overalls were styled over embroidered collared vest. A pair of leather overalls styled off the shoulder with straps wrapped around the waist is so right now. These leather overalls were styled atop a see though mesh vest with intricate embroidered beading. Many other vests throughout the collection carried this similar embroidery detailing which gave this basic item and feminine and baroque feel.
Parka coats in multi diagonal stripes in black, red and white had fur trimmed hoods. Sequin hoodies will be a most wanted item by every hip hop artist. Paisley print head bandannas and black baggy jump suits also gave the collection an urban touch.
The collection shifted to tailored more sophisticated outlines. Long double breasted trench coats teamed with slim tailored trousers exhibited in striking velvets in red wine and a rich hunter green. A silver satin suit with a metallic shiny finish was attention grabbing. Other tailored suits in black with satin lapels were styled with sequins scarves.
Black biker/riding boots were stuffed inside of loose fit leather trousers. Low hanging sash bags with embroidered straps matched many of the looks.
McQueen will never cease to amaze his audience with his mixing of cultures, sub-cultures and limitless concepts of design.
