MILAN, Jun 29, 2006/ FW/ --- Trust Alessandro Dell’Acqua to put a delicious twist on a military-inspired collection and do it without the usual clichés or make any anti-war statements. The only statement he made – Easy-to-wear and easygoing clothes for men for Spring 2007.
Sharply tailored suits in different washes of beige worn with pencil-thin ties, crew neck tees with silk-screen prints of tigers and golf tees & cable knit pullovers adorned with chevrons that also act a new logo are the main staples of this collection.
In fact, the chevrons were seen everywhere – as a clasp for backpacks and totes, as belt buckles and insignia on swimsuits.
The military-influence was definitely there, but this is the army in the desert, where camouflage is black & white prints or olive, black & beige; these color combinations seen on trousers, shorts and shirts, even bags and totes.
The pilot’s bomber jacket became blouson with zips instead of snaps. Done in leather or fabric, they given lots of pockets. And speaking of pockets, the BDUs were made into loose-fitting coats that can be gathered at the hem with a string.
The paratrooper jacket did not escape Dell’Acqua’s eyes either as they were made into blousons gathered at the cuffs.
And thank goodness, Dell’Acqua did not forget the suits, proposing one-button, two-button and double-breasted suit jackets for Spring 2007. Matched with walking shorts with big front pockets, traditional trouser suits and slim-fit denim, they are must-have from this collection.
Shoes were utilitarian, with some styles reaching past the ankles. Done in camouflage and tone-on-tone brown, they are perfect for walking. Though the mood is casual, Dell’Acqua also created silver shoes, the current mark of a collection that looks into menswear’s future.
